Heading along the via Salaria from Ascoli Piceno towards Rome the distant outline of Arquata del Tronto is unmistakable against the heady backdrop of Monte Vettore. Towering above the old town is the high keep of the 13th century Rocca, or fortress, that once guarded the important road below.

GADA - Stage 1: “Along The Paths Of Salaria Gallica”
Once reached Pretare, cross the whole village going down from the north to reach the SAE area.Just after the restaurant "Rifugio degli Alpini" on the rightside, a small road leaving the SP89 along the municipal park descends downhill. Here the path keeps on down for about 100 meters, leaving on the right some small wood houses and a water purifier, before it begins to enter the woods alternating with meadows.The track continues slowly down: it is necessary to pay attention to the horizontal white-and-red signs continuing southwards, passing the ruins of an ancient mill (avoid getting close as the structure, as it is dangerous), among stretches of woods and openings on the valley, almost parallel to the “Fosso della Pianella”.About halfway along the route you will come across Fonte Sant'Egidio, a small natural spring of drinkable water flowing up at the foot of a huge rock forming a cave. At the foot of the cave has been placed a statue of the homonymous Saint, patron of Piedilama, which inhabitants always believed the spring to be miraculous and therefore used it to quench the thirst of sick people.After the spring, the path continues to descend in a southerly direction passing first on a small footbridge that runs along a ditch (quite rich in water in springtime, when more attention is needed), and then crosses a wooden bridge before returning to Piedilama, following the white-and-red signs.Once passed through the red zone of Piedilama, the road SP89 is reached again in the last stretch leading to the SAE area.If going towards the hamlet of Borgo, before reaching the SAE area, once on the SP89 it is necessary to cross the road and, on the opposite side, entering one of the alleys of the village, indicated by the presence of a white-and-red flag on a light pole and a wooden sign not far away from it.From SAE area of Piedilama (818 m), start climbing up to the village, where soon it is necessary to enter an alley on your rightside following the red-and-white signs and keeping to the right at both the first and the second crossroad.The mule-track begins to climb for a couple of kilometers in the direction of Colle Forcella that, once reached, offers panoramic views of the surrounding chains, with the gaze ranging from Monte Vettore (2478 m) in the north, up to Pizzo di Sevo to the south (2419 m, Monti della Laga).After a short flat stretch, the track starts to descend until a passage outside the woods, then it returns to the forest until reaching a junction: to continue towards Borgo it is necessary turn left, keeping to descend the coast of Pisciallonga.From here the road is no longer a comfortable mule-track but a real path in the woods, which passes on top of the “Macchia di San Pietro”, descending slowly at the beginning, then more steeply until it rejoins a gravel road.From here, turning down on the right the road descends to Borgo di Arquata, while going on the left the mule-track continues going up slightly in direction of Trisungo. Instead of descending to Borgo di Arquata, from the crossroad this path continues in the direction of Trisungo along the mule-track for about 150 meters, when it reaches the highest panoramic point, near an old tractor parked at the foot of a big oak tree.From here, in front of Picco di Macina (the mountain overlooking Trisungo), the path starts to hike down, continuing along the evident mule-track which reaches a hay field. Keep along the right edge of the field, following the old fence (mostly covered by brambles) for about 150 meters, until an open gap in the fence allows going further down.About 50 m. later the trail leaves the meadows entering into the woods, zigzagging down through the trees.Following the evident path continuing in the shade of the oaks, it reaches some vegetable gardens nearby the “Fosso della Madonna delle Grazie”.Continue to climb down until a sacred aedicule dedicated to the Madonna delle Grazie (patron of Trisungo) and San Francesco (protector of Borgo di Arquata) will appear on your rightside, blessed on 26.07.2020.Then, after 50 m, the path finally reaches the hamlet of Trisungo.This old path was still run by cars until the ‘50es, when the construction of a new specific road for vehicles brought it to be abandoned and recovered by trees. That is why this track has a width up to 6 meters.The entrance in Trisungo is located exactly in the highest side of the hamlet, along the road SP 20 Trisungo-Colle, on the leftside, right after the information plaque #Camminarquata. While the path rises up, before reaching Faete it crosses one time the SP20, after coming out of the woods next to the Chruch of San Matteo, nearby the athletics field. Once left the Church of San Matteo on your left, the path enters a chestnut groove with a panoramic opening on Arquata and its castle “La Rocca”, which stoically resisted to the earthquake.After the first flat part of the path, then the track starts to rise on the leftside, with a consistent drop while flanking magnificent hand-made walls, until it reaches the hamlet of Spelonga.

GADA - Stage 2: “Wild Laga”
From the Church of Sant'Agata, in the heart of Spelonga, take the small way rising up in direction of the highest part of the village, reaching the small church of S. Emidio (about 970 m). After taking the evident mule-track rising in front of the fountain placed on the church’s leftside (a short stretch of about 10 min.) near the aqueduct tank called “Le Schiarezze” there is a crossroad with 3 options: the muletrack in the middle is the one to be taken. Then, after crossing a couple of ditches (Fosso delle Fonticelle) there is the edge of a large chestnut wood (Le Macchie) cut by another ditch, almost always dry (Fosso della Portella). Continuing into the woods where the muletrack goes slightly downhill until crossing, after 5-600 m, a track that goes up on the right shows up. Shortly afterwards there is another path to the rightside: it has to be taken until you reach the Church of Madonna dei Santi (1128 m, 0.45 hours), a jewel set in the quiet of ageold chestnut trees and still a destination for local villagers during Ferragosto Day. From the church, follow the indications of the directional arrows pointing to Passo il Chino, going up in a beaten track that after 15 minutes rejoins a junction with an easy gravel road, near a spring. Here it is necessary to continue on the left on the gravel road (on the contrary, going down towards the right, the road goes back to the SP Trisungo-Colle d'Arquata). Continue to climb slowly for about 5 km with the panoramic view of Monte Vettore that will accompany you all the way. You will reach a parking lot on the left with 5 places and a small picnic area. From here the path continues alongside the Vena "de lu Pujie" (Vena del Poggio) on the left: please pay attention for the next 100 m as the huge protruding boulders loom over the road and sometimes it can happen that stones could roll downhill. Once passed the coast, within 500 m the gravel road is replaced by beaten ground: after a couple of hairpin bends you come into a crossroad which, either to the right or to the left, leads to the same exit.Continue for other 500 m to Mount Comunitore (1695 m: you'll be at the base of its peak once you'll see a fence that provides a panoramic view of the Laga Mountains), from which will begin the descent for 1 km to Passo il Chino (1581 m).Here G.A.D.A. rejoins "Sentiero Italia" (S.I.), which will lead in the next 5 km downhill towards Colle (path characterized by a certain difference in height). Continue following the signs of the S.I. that will make you descend along the ditch dug by the stream Vargo and then among spectacular sandstones leading you to the Church of Rocchetta, located in a panoramic position at 1108 m. on Mount Rocca. From there go down the hairpin bends of the coast which will lead you easily to Colle d'Arquata in about 10 minutes.

GADA - Tappa 3: ““From Laga to Sibillini Mountains”
The entrance from Colle starts about 2 km after the hamlet itself (along the S.P. 20 "Trisungo-Colle") towards Spelonga, where the beginning of the path is indicated by an informative arrow, near some temporary farms. From there the path for the first 100 meters is in common with the one that leads to Pescara del Tronto, from which it differs because the one for Pescara goes up to the right near a crossroads, while the one for Grisciano goes straight on.From this intersection it is also possible to admire the highest peaks of the Municipality of Arquata, as well as among the highest peaks of this entire strip of Apennines: Monte Vettore on the north (2478 m) and Pizzo di Sevo on the south (2419 m). From here the route continues down into the woods, where it is possible to orientate following the whiteand-red signs. Along the path, hikers will be able to appreciate some low walls of a very different workmanship compared to those of containment (also often present on this itinerary): they are in fact low walls of the ancient border between the Kingdom of Naples and the Papal State. We would like to point out to the less attentive hikers that the path, once out of the woods and stretched near a clearing, then re-enters the woods on the left, where the horizontal signs indicate the exact entry point. In this section, in fact, it is spontaneous to stay along the wider path which leads instead to a cement fountain with no water. Once at this entrance, the route descends to the hamlet of Grisciano (Accumoli, RI), after crossing beautiful remains of dry stone walls, and then follows the flat road which becomes paved and easy, until it exits near the small bridge over the Chiarino torrent. From Grisciano it is necessary to cross the Salaria Street reaching the bus stop, then the pedestrian bridge going over the Tronto river. Once crossed the bridge, it is necessary to follow the asphalted road SP 129 (closed to traffic waiting for post-earthquake restoration works) leaving the soccer fields on your left. After about 300 m it is necessary to turn the right, following up the track indicated by a pole (which in some cases may be covered by vegetation). Going back up the path you avoid, in fact, to cover the long stretch of asphalted road saving about 1 km. Once SP 129 is reached again, continue for 200 m. and then back into the woods on the left, going up for 1 km through the old chestnut woods of Colle Rapino, reaching the crossroads between "Sentiero Italia" and "Cammino nelle Terre Mutate", indicated by a pole with 3 arrows. Leave the S.I. and take the C.T.M. on the right: from here on the road gets a paved mule track going down to the hamlet of Tufo, right after 1 km of good walk, crossing a small bridge over the Rio Capodacqua. Left the village of Tufo on your back, the itinerary continues for about 100 m along the SP129. Then it takes the beaten earth square turning on the right, indicated by arrows. Soon the path enters the woods and is characterized by the presence of a beautiful dry stone wall on your leftside. This initial wooded stretch of 300 m in slight descent, however, also presents a constant regrowth of grass (in particular, pay attention to nettle during summertime). At the end of the descent, proceeding straight ahead (in an easterly direction) the track reaches the wide plain called “Campi di Sotto”. Proceed for about 400 m in an easterly direction until you come to a dry stone wall from the pre-Roman era about 1.5/2 m high on your left, at the edge of the woods. While crossing “Campi di Sotto” at the rightside is flowing the Rio Capodacqua, a tributary of the Tronto river. Once reached the little wall of pre-Roman era, you advance slightly before turning left, where you will enter the sandstone canyon of the "Vena dei Corvi". After traversing the full canyon until the end, the track than enters the woods, in some parts keeping a slight slope, while in some points it is possible to admire panoramic views of the Tronto Valley, ranging from Grisciano to the SAE area and the industrial zone of Pescara del Tronto. Going on, the track passes a ditch (without water) and proceeds always along the strip in the woods, until the edge of it when it crosses a gravel road connecting to the Salaria Nuova (SS4) on the right and the SP 129 on the left. Ignore the gravel road and continue straight ahead, after turning slightly right, to take a dirt road on the left leading, after about 300 m, back to the SP 129, about 700 m before Pescara del Tronto (the historic village, not the SAE area).

GADA - Stage 4: “Arquata Springs itinerary”
The trail starts from the village of Pescara del Tronto, along the old Salaria (SP89), more precisely from the village cemetery and the small chapel dedicated to the victims of the earthquake dt. August 24, 2016, at the foot of the viaduct "Tre Valli Umbre".Rising up the mule-track, several truffle grounds appears on both sides, until it reaches a crossroad located about 1 km after the cemetery.Attention: at this point the path continues straight, ignoring the road built by the CIIP Consortium (work in progress) in order to realize the new earthquake-proof aqueduct that, in fact, cuts the path in two parts.Unfortunately, the continuation of the path is currently impossible because of the works which created a jump of about 3 meters. The path will be restored by CIIP at the end of the works-in-progress (within summer 2021).The track rises slowly and after about 1 km you pass (with due attention) a "paleofrana" (an old landslide) which opens a spectacular view of the Laga Mountains and the villages of Faete and Spelonga.After about 2.7 km from the cemetery, the route descends from the slope of Pescara towards Arquata, rejoining the path 104 which descends towards the “Vena dei Corvi” (945 m), through chestnut trees, until you reach a junction. The road on the right goes to Arquata capoluogo (red zone, with forbidden access). So it is necessary to take the leftside in direction of Pretare.About 600 m. after crossroad, the mule-track begins to climb slightly until you reach, after a couple of bends, a picnic area, ideal for a break, near the spring called "La Botte" (located just 30 m from the main road) at exactly 1000 m. height. This spring once supplied water to Arquata before the construction of the aqueduct in the XX° century.The itinerary continues up to the ruins of the ancient "Casa del Conte Gallo" (Hunt house of the Gallo Count) reaching then a crossroad: the track going down on the right brings to Camartina (path nr. 103).Instead, the way to Pretare keeps straight, still climbing just with a slight slope, allowing wide views of the Laga Mountains, while getting closer to the spectacular shapes of Monte Vettore (2478 m).At about 7 km from the beginning of the route, at an altitude of 1220 m, a sharp bend shows on the left the fork towards Fonte Cappella, another possible water stop.Continuing along the path, it finally reaches the locality called "Picchio 7" at the “Colle del Quarto” peak (1280 m), a natural balcony on the Tronto Valley and surrounding mountain chains, in the past used as a fire lookout (hence the name).At this point the path joins the road SP89 before turning on the left after 500 m back into the woods, crossing the Pine Forest over Pretare and then descending along the “Veticare” path.Before reaching Pretare, the trail passes next to an old furnace.

Anello Appennino Ascolano - Progetto Appennino Outdoor AP
Il percorso si sviluppa ad anello su gran parte del territorio montuoso o di alta collina della provincia di Ascoli Piceno. Si parte da Piazza Checco d'Ascoli e si esce dalla città verso ovest. Poco dopo l'abitato di Mozzano ci si immette sulla Salaria, prestando attenzione ad attraversare l'incrocio. Si svolta quindi a destra per prendere la SP237 lungo il Torrente Fluvione. Si giunge a Roccafluvione e dopo circa 2,5 km si prende la SP89 per Uscerno, superato il quale la strada si fa più tortuosa e con maggiore pendenza, fino a raggiungere la massima quota presso il versante sud-est del Monte Pianello della Macchia, a 1182 mslm. Da qui inizia una lunga discesa di circa 19 km il cui primo tratto corre lungo il versante meridionale del Monte Vettore, passando per Borgo di Arquata, e poi per Trisungo sulla Salaria. Potrebbe essere questa la zona dove eventualmente effettuare una sosta di una notte per riposarsi, assaporare i prodotti tipici locali e riprendere il giorno dopo. Proseguendo lungo il percosso, dopo circa 2.5 km da Trisungo, la Salaria entra in galleria. Si consiglia di prendere una deviazione sulla destra dove la strada è transennata, ma di agevole passaggio. Si prosegue verso Acquasanta Terme e quindi, in corrispondenza di Paggese, ci si immette sulla SP7 dove iniziata la salita di 17 km che ci porta a San Gregorio, secondo punto più altro dell'intero percorso a circa 1000 mslm. Successivamente comincia l'ultima discesa di circa 10 km che con un tracciato molto tortuoso e pendente ci porta verso il fondo valle del Tronto, da dove si prende la SP207 verso Mozzano e si fa quindi rientro ad Ascoli Piceno. Quest'ultimo tratto, tra Paggese e il bivio con la SP207, è molto panoramico, ma il fondo stradale è piuttosto sconnesso, con avvallamenti e tratti parzialmente coinvolti da piccoli movimenti franosi.

Arquata del Tronto - Progetto Appennino Outdoor AP
Questo itinerario, prevalentemente su strade bianche e sterrate, si snoda tra il versante ovest della valle del Tronto e Forca Canapine, ai piedi del massiccio del Monte Vettore e si mantiene per lunghi tratti a quote al di sopra dei 1000 mslm, toccando diverse cime e raggiungendo i 1663 mslm in prossimità del Monte Macchialta. La partenza consigliata è da Borgo di Arquata del Tronto, presso la colonnina attrezzi della "Ciclovia dell'Appennino". Prima del centro storico si devia verso destra e dove si incontra il cartello "#camminarquata" seguire indicazioni per "Gada Bike" per prendere lo sterrato che sale fino Colle del Quarto. Qui ci si ricongiunge alla SP34 che conduce al passo di Forca di Presta a circa 1530 mslm. Da qui inizia il "sentiero per tutti di forca presta" che porta fino a Forca Canapine, passa per il Rifugio Belvedere, per poi arrivare ai pantani di Accumoli. Siamo al km 25 del percorso, punto in cui iniziano gli ultimi 18 km in discesa che riconducono ad Arquata del Tronto, passando per Capodacqua, Tufo e Pescara del Tronto.

Da Montegallo alla Piana della Gardosa - Progetto Appennino Outdoor AP
Il giro con partenza e arrivo dalla località di Balzo si sviluppa lungo strade asfaltate, bianche e sentieri sterrati attraversando piccoli borghi più o meno colpiti dal terremoto del 2016. E' un percorso tipicamente montano che si mantiene per la quasi totalità del suo tragitto al disopra degli 800 mslm di quota, ai piedi del versante marchigiano del massiccio del Monte Vettore, e caratterizzato da alternanza di salite e discese.Da Balzo si prende verso nord la SP83 e dopo circa 3,5 km si gira a destra per la la SP149. Quindi nei pressi di Piano si imbocca una strada bianca sulla sinistra che sale verso il Monte Propezzano da dove si inizia a scendere per circa 4 km fino al borgo di Rascio, dopo il quale, attorno al km 13.5, si svolta a sinistra per seguire il percorso di andata e ritorno per la piana della Gardosa. Si passa dall'abitato di Pignotti e per i borghi di Tofe, Rocca e Foce, l'ultimo centro abitato della vallata, da cui comincia il tratto che attraversa la piana della Gardosa prima su strada bianca per 2 km,  poi su sterrato. Questa ampia vallata offre un punto di vista spettacolare sui monti Sibillini, essendo circondata dalle principali vette della zona (Monte Vettore, Cima del Lago, Cima del Redentore, Pizzo del Diavolo, Monte Sibilla). Il percorso proseguirebbe su un single track ciottoloso molto impegnativo, fino a raggiungere il caratteristico lago di Pilato. Si sconsiglia di continuare, per lo meno non in bici, oltre la piana della Gardosa, proprio per la difficoltà del sentiero da percorrere per molti tratti con la bici in spalla. Dalla piana della Gardosa si torna quindi indietro al punto di partenza della deviazione, si gira a destra, in salita su strada asfaltata. Presso l'abitato di Altino e il Rifugio Altino finisce la salita a circa 1000 mslm di quota e inizia un saliscendi su strada bianca, il Sentiero dei mietitori, luogo di interesse sia paesaggistico che storico ai piedi del massiccio del Monte Vettore. Dopo circa 9 km si raggiunge la quota massima del percorso, a circa 1270 mslm presso il Colle Pisciano, per poi ridiscendere fino alla quota minima, prima su strada bianca e poi sulla SP120, attraversando gli abitati di Rigo, Migliarelli e Fonditore. Poco prima dell'abitato di Corbara, si abbandona la provinciale e si prende la strada sterrata che inizialmente bordeggia l'abitato, per poi entrare nel bosco. Dopo 2.5 km circa ci si immette sulla SP 89, proprio nei pressi del punto di arrivo, nel paese di Balzo.

Anello Trisungo Macera della Morte - Progetto Appennino Outdoor AP
Questo è un percorso prevalentemente montano che corre per la sua quasi totalità al disopra dei 1000 m, per metà in salita e l'altra metà in discesa, toccando varie cime, tra le quali spicca il Monte Macera della Morte.L'anello ha origine dal paese di Trisungo ed è consigliabile percorrerlo in senso orario, in modo che raggiunta la vetta di Monte Macera della Morte si possa decidere se continuare l'anello (in parte in territorio laziale) oppure tornare sulla stessa strada per poi dirigersi a Spelonga. Considerando quindi il giro in senso orario, si inizia dalla provinciale SP20 in salita, raggiunto Faete, si svolta a sinistra continuando nel paese finché non si entra in un'area prevalentemente boscata su strada bianca e sterrata per un tratto di circa 13 km. In questo tratto si lambisce la vetta del Monte Comunitore e successivamente inizia il suggestivo percorso in cresta che continua, anche dopo essere usciti dal bosco, in un paesaggio dominato dal massiccio del Monte Vettore per circa 5 km. Il sentiero passa poi per il Monte Macera della Morte, da dove si gode di una vista a 360 gradi sui Monti della Laga e raggiunge poco dopo il punto di massima quota a 2070 mslm, al confine tra tre regioni, Marche, Lazio e Abruzzo. Da qui inizia la lunga discesa, prima blanda e poi più ripida. Il percroso entra in territorio laziale, passa tra boschi e diverse radure dove sono presenti dei laghetti montani, tra cui, il più grande è il Lago Secco. In questa parte del tracciato, fino a Poggio d'Api, il sentiero non è ben visibile, quindi è bene attenersi alla traccia GPS per mantenere l'orientamento. Raggiunto Poggio d'Api, si prende la SP20 e si rientra nelle Marche in prossimità di Colle di Arquata e, passando per Spelonga, si fa ritorno al punto di partenza.

Da Trisungo a Macera della Morte - Progetto Appennino Outdoor AP
Questo è un percorso prevalentemente montano che corre per la sua quasi totalità al disopra dei 1000 m, toccando varie cime, tra le quali spicca il Monte Macera della Morte.Il percorso ha origine dal paese di Trisungo, frazione del comune di Arquata del Tronto. Si sale inizialmente attraverso il bosco per poi incontrare la strada bianca che ci porta fino al parco naturale, passa per il Monte Comunitore attraversando paesaggi mozzafiato con alle spalle il Monte Vettore. Si arriva quindi tramite strada in cresta fino a Monte Macera della Morte a circa 2025 mslm, dove si gode di una vista a 360 gradi sui Monti della Laga. Si riprende fiato e si ritorna al punto di partenza, per un tratto seguendo lo stesso percorso, deviando al km 30,5 verso Spelonga e godendosi i monti che ci circondano.

Partenza da Ascoli Piceno direzione Acquasanta Terme, strada in costante leggera salita, arrivati al paese inizia un tratto di strada stretto e con una serie di deviazioni, alla galleria prima di Arquata si passa a sinistra esterno alla galleria.Ad Arquata inizia una vera salita di 8km verso Petrare, per poi tenere la destra verso il passo del Galluccio, si scende verso Balzo e Montegallo per poi tenere la sinistra al bivio verso Propezzano.Propezzano, Polverina, Illice ed infine Croce di Casale per poi scendere verso Roccafluvione, Mozzano e si rientra ad Ascoli Piceno
