Located on a hill, Montecalvo in Foglia is situated a short distance from the left bank of the Foglia River, where the river describes a wide curve before leaving the Montefeltro area. The name derives from the fact that the place, being mostly clayey soil and therefore subject to sinkholes and landslides, was extremely barren of vegetation, hence the name Montecalvo, meaning bald. An isolated medieval tower, clearly visible at the top of a round hill, the so-called Torre Cotogna, is the only evidence that demonstrates that the territory of Montecalvo in Foglia, like that of the nearby Tavoleto, was once a border territory between the lands of Montefeltro and the coastal lands of the Malatesta first and then the Sforza. The residential area of Ca'Gallo is part of the municipal territory of Montecalvo in Foglia, developed in recent years on the banks of the Foglia, while on the opposite side lies the hamlet of Borgo Massano. In the territory of Montecalvo in Foglia, besides admiring the typical badlands of the slopes leading up to the old town, you can enjoy "Badia" wildlife oasis, remarkably important from the  naturalistic point of view, boasting a resting area and home to numerous species of migratory birds.
