Montefano
All informations about this city

Montefano is a hilly municipality where industrial and traditional rural activities are carried out.

In the historic centre worth mentioning is the Baroque collegiate church San Donato (1568) with a cotto façade and inside  a precious work representing St Donato and St. John at the sides of the Assumpted Mary. The little church  of Santa Maria della Confraternita  preserves a 16th century canvas attributed to a Venetian painting school, representing the Vergin Mary between St. Catherine and the bishop Sant’Onorato who offers her Montefano on a tray. Noteworthy is also the Town Hall: it was built in the second half of the 19th century and it encloses a small theatre by the architect Tombolini who drew inspiration from the Fenice opera house of Venice.

For those interested in the Bible, not to miss is the Centre for Biblical studies “Giovanni Vannucci”.

In the suburbs of Montefano, you can see the Montefiore castle, with its perimeter walls, a tower measuring 36 metres and the typical castle with a fixed bridge made of bricks.
